Beryl Storm Update Sunday evening
As rains and winds enter our community, we are announcing several items to help you as Monday approaches.
EMERGENCY CALL CENTER NUMBER
You can call us after 7 pm at 979-415-2788 for information, help and assistance you cannot find anywhere else.. We will have a staff ready to answer your questions and concerns until the storm passes. You should call 911 for life-threatening emergencies.
TRASH COLLECTION
All trash collection will be delayed until the storm passes and winds calm. No heavy trash, debris or household garbage will be collected during the storm. The landfill will not be
open. We will alert you when we can move from storm response to trash collection and how we will resume that process.
POWER OUTAGES, TRAFFIC AND SAFETY CONCERNS
We expect power outages. We expect trees to fall on roadways. Please do not touch or approach a tree that is over a road. Live power lines might be tangled in it. If a tree falls over a road during the storm, we will work as quick as we can to remove it when the weather has calmed. You can call us if you want to report it but understand we might not be able to move it immediately.
We know many of you have alternative routes to travel after the storm if a tree blocks a road. However, if you are new to Lake Jackson, please consider how you will travel after the storm now.
If you experience a power outage, it will be because a tree fell and broke the line, Centerpoint infrastructure was affected by the storm (such as a transformer "blew") or another factor caused power to fail. That is how power outages in a storm happen. This event will not include rolling blackouts. If you want to know more about outages in your area, you can sign up for Centerpoint Power Alert Service.
CITY RESPONSE
All non-essential services are suspended, and city facilities will be closed until the storm has passed. If the winds reach 40-60 miles per hour our emergency response may be slowed. We have crews working overnight to prepare for this storm as it continues approaching the coast. We have more crews on stand-by ready to begin work as soon as we need them.
MESSAGES AND ALERTS
Throughout the storm we will be issuing many messages to keep you informed of what we know as we know it. Please follow us on Facebook which will be our first line of communication. We will also be distributing messages on Linkedin, X/Twitter, our website and through our emergency alert. Please follow us on as many channels as you can in case one of them is not operating properly during the storm.
Finally, stay safe Lake Jackson and if you need us, we are here.
