A GLIMPSE ABOUT THE PARADE AND WEEKEND
Read on to learn a little bit about how we work behind the scenes to create the Parade of Lights!
1. Our cancelation procedure if the weather is terrible: AT NOON NOV. 18: We will release the official statement about the parade status on FB, our website and X (formerly known as Twitter). We will announce if we have canceled or if we are going to roll. We chose this time because we need enough time to let the entrants know they don't need to arrive. It also gives the community enough time to hear about the decision.
2. NO RESCHEDULE: If the parade is canceled, many will want to know if it will be rescheduled. It will not. We have arrangements with many law enforcement agencies and first responders to protect and secure the festival and parade. Many attendees never see them, but they are working. They cannot be rescheduled because they must return to work at their cities and agencies. Also, many parade participants organize their appearances around the day we schedule. Getting them to reschedule means many will not be able to participate again. Finally, many of our city employees work the parade; if we cancel, we cannot remove them from their regular duties again without getting behind on our normal services to you, like trash pickup.
3. We hope that showing you a little glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes to create the Festival of Lights and the Parade of Lights will help you understand how we make decisions. We have hundreds of people involved in the weekend, and they all want the same thing you do; a fantastic and safe holiday weekend in Lake Jackson.
