Responsibilities

This department is responsible for inspecting and licensing all food establishments and facilities, which provide prepared and/or pre-packaged foods. This includes, but not limited to, the following:

  • Adoptive homes
  • Foster homes
  • Gas stations
  • Grocery and convenience stores
  • Hospitals
  • Hotels and motels
  • Mobile vending units
  • Nursing homes
  • Restaurants
  • Schools
  • Senior and assisted living facilities


Inspections

Inspections are done biannually or on a complaint basis to ensure compliance with the City of Lake Jackson ordinances.

Other areas inspected by the health inspector are:

  • Any complaints of unsanitary conditions on public or private property
  • Day care facilities (home and commercial)
  • Grease traps
  • Public swimming pools and spas
  • Food Sales out of a truck / car
