School Based Programs
At-Risk Children Program
This program is to help young offenders discover their choices between right and wrong and the consequences of their actions. Counseling sessions are held with the parents present. A video tape on peer pressure, importance of education, family relationships, and responsibility for your behavior is discussed. The goal of this program is to prevent recidivism.
Back to School Safety
This program informs school age children and adults about potential dangers traveling to and from school. The Crime Prevention Officer introduces the program by allowing the adult audience to see the traffic environment from the mind of a child. They discuss the common methods of transporting children to and from school and the dangers of children walking, bicycling, or riding in an automobile. Discussions also include school bus safety, traveling through school zones and the importance of school crossing guards.
Career Day
Once a year BISD and Brazosport College offer a career day. This program exposes students to a variety of professions. The Police Department discusses several aspects about choosing a career in law enforcement. The importance of continued education is stressed and examples are given of how skills in school are applied to real life.
