Downtown Revitilazation Project
The Lake Jackson Development Corporation held two public hearings on May 28th and June 4th to discuss funding two projects in the downtown area next year with Half-Cent Sales Tax Revenue.
Project 1 would provide $30,000 to prepare conceptual designs for South Parking Place. Staff has recommended that the downtown design consultant team study this area for improved parking and public gather spaces that would serve businesses in the immediate area.
Project 2 would provide $5,000,000 to construct phase 2 of the downtown revitalization project. Phase 2 includes This Way from SH 332 to Center Way, Center Way, That Way from Center Way to Parking Way, and Parking Way from This Way to Oak Drive.
Initial estimates for Phase 2 exceeded the recommended $5,000,000 budget. In order to bring the project back into budget, the first segment of This Way between SH 332 and Circle Way has been removed from the scope and will be bid as an add-alternate should the Lake Jackson Development Corporation and City Council decide to move forward on Phase 2 of the Downtown Revitalization Project.
The Development Corporation Board is scheduled to meet Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at noon to adopt next year’s proposed budget which includes funding for Projects 1 and 2. Any interested are welcome to attend. The meeting will be held at City Hall, 25 Oak Drive, in the Council Chambers.
